Ever since EPICA emerged on the scene, the band has been caught in a whirlwind of studio recordings, interviews, screaming fans, world wide live performances and the rock 'n roll lifestyle. The loss of both a record company and a drummer in 2006 seemed to have stopped the band on their rise to the top. But all is not what it seems. EPICA is back with a mighty new album called 'The Divine Conspiracy', an exiting new chapter in the history of the band.
The Dutch female fronted symphonic metal band EPICA was founded in 2002. Mark Jansen had left After Forever to pursue his own dreams and found that guitar player Ad Sluijter, bass player Yves Huts and keyboard and piano player Coen Janssen shared his vision. Drummer Jeroen Simons and singer Simone Simons completed the band. The band name is derived from an album of Kamelot of whom several band members are big fans and musically EPICA stands out by not only taking influences from the world of rock and (symphonic) metal, but also from film music as composed by the likes of Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer.
Within a few months EPICA had the material to record the stunning debut album 'The Phantom Agony'. The album was released worldwide in 2003 and was followed by a lengthy tour. EPICA's efforts were rewarded in 2004 with an Essent Award (an important Dutch award for talented young bands). While touring continued throughout the year, EPICA recorded and released their second full length album 'Consign To Oblivion' in 2005. The album made it to #12 in the Dutch charts and remained in the Top 100 for 7 weeks. This release also features a guest appearance by Kamelot frontman Roy Khan. With the creative juices flowing, that same year the album 'The Score: An Epic Journey' also saw the light of day. The album consists of the music EPICA wrote for the Dutch movie 'Joyride'. This album is marked by the absence of guitars, drums or even vocals and contains mainly instrumental symphonic songs. After four years of hard work, the band took the time to reflect on the impressive career that took the world by storm. So in 2006 the photo-sound book 'The Road To Paradiso' saw the light of day. It's a detailed description of the band's history in words and images and contains lots of pictures taken by the band members, professional photographers and even hundreds of fans that contributed their best pictures and words. This book comes together with a unique bonus-cd that features unreleased songs, live material and demo recordings.
The year that started on a high ended in a low when drummer Jeroen Simons decided to quit the band. But it's not in the band's nature to be taken aback. After hundreds of shows in dozens of countries all over the world (including the US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, most European countries, Israel, Tunisia...) this band had become a well oiled metal machine that is unstoppable. In 2007 EPICA signed a new record deal with Nuclear Blast and the year will see the release of EPICA's third full length album 'The Divine Conspiracy'. “More” is the best word to define this album. More choirs, guitars, grunts, speed and songs. 'The Divine Conspiracy' will be more guitar oriented. This time four guitar tracks were recorded instead of the usual two. Thanks to the skills of talented God Dethroned drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek EPICA was able to make faster and more complex songs. As with all of their releases, the music on this album was brought to a higher level by the dream team at the Gate Studio: Sascha Paeth, Amanda Somerville and Miro Rodenberg. This new opus is more than 75 minutes long and is EPICA's first concept album. It deals with the theory that, as a test, God created all kinds of different religions and released those upon humanity to see if they would be able to find the true nature of them. The question is whether mankind can realize that all religions are basically the same. But there's more to it. The album also concludes the 'Embrace That Smothers' concept that could already be found on 'The Phantom Agony', but started on the After Forever-album 'Prison Of Desire'. It seems only fitting that the conclusion of the concept features a guest appearance by After Forever grunter Sander Gommans. The circle has closed, the journey continues...

Depuis qu' EPICA est apparus sur la scène, le groupe a été pris dans un tourbillon d'enregistrements en studio, des interviews, en hurlant des ventilateurs, des spectacles dans le monde entier en direct et le mode de vie du rock'n'roll ». La perte à la fois une maison de disques et un batteur en 2006 semblait avoir cessé de la bande sur leur ascension vers le sommet. Mais tout n'est pas ce qu'il semble. EPICA est de retour avec un nouvel album mythique nommé 'The Divine Conspiracy', un nouveau chapitre de repartir dans l'histoire de la bande.
Le metal symphonique Néerlandais EPICA a été fondée en 2002. Mark Jansen After Forever avait quitté pour poursuivre ses propres rêves et a constaté que guitariste Ad Sluijter, bassiste Yves Huts et le clavier et pianiste Coen Janssen a partagé sa vision. Batteur et chanteuse , Jeroen Simons et Simone Simons, on complété le groupe. Le nom du groupe est dérivé d'un album de Kamelot dont plusieurs membres de la bande sont de gros fans et musicalement EPICA se démarque en ne prenant que les influences du monde du rock et "symphonic metal", mais aussi de la musique de film en tant que composé par des gens comme Danny Elfman et Hans Zimmer.
En quelques mois, EPICA avait le matériel pour enregistrer le premier album magnifique "The Phantom Agony». L'album est sorti dans le monde entier en 2003 et a été suivie d'une longue tournée. Les efforts d'EPICA ont été récompensés en 2004 avec une Essent Award (une récompense importante pour les Néerlandais groupes talentueux jeunes). Lors de sa tournée qui a continué tout au long de l'année, EPICA enregistre et sort leur deuxième album complet Consign to Oblivation »en 2005. L'album fait à atteind la 12 eme place dans les charts néerlandais et est resté dans le Top 100 pendant 7 semaines. Cette version comporte également une apparition en tant qu'invité par Kamelot chanteur Roy Khan. Avec le jus qui coule de création, la même année l'album 'The Score: An Epic Journey "a également vu la lumière du jour. L'album se compose de la musique EPICA a écrit pour le film néerlandais «Joyride». Cet album est marqué par l'absence de guitares, de tambours ou même voix et contient principalement des chansons instrumentales symphoniques. L'année qui a commencé sur une bonne note et s'est terminée par une faible lorsque le batteur Jeroen Simons a décidé de quitter le groupe. Mais ce n'est pas dans la nature la bande d'être pris de court. Après des centaines de spectacles dans des dizaines de pays partout dans le monde (y compris les États-Unis, Canada, Mexique, Argentine, Chili, Uruguay, le Brésil, la plupart des pays européens, Israël, Tunisie ...) ce groupe était devenu une machine bien huilée de métal impossible à arrêter . En 2007, EPICA a signé un nouveau contrat de disque avec Nuclear Blast et l'année verra la sortie du troisième album d'EPICA longueur totale "The Divine Conspiracy". "Plus" est le meilleur mot pour définir cet album. Plus choeurs, guitares, des grognements, des vitesses et des chansons. 'The Divine Conspiracy' sera plus orienté guitare. Cette fois, quatre pistes de guitare ont été enregistrées au lieu des deux habituels. Merci au talent du talentueux batteur de God Dethroned Ariën Weesenbeek maintenant de EPICA , il a été en mesure de prendre plus rapidement et des chansons plus complexes. La question est de savoir si l'humanité ne peut se rendre compte que toutes les religions sont fondamentalement les mêmes. Mais il ya plus que cela. L'album se termine également le concept de "'Embrace That Smothers' qui pourraient déjà être trouvée sur «The Phantom Agony», mais a commencé l'album After Forever 'Prison of Desire ". Il semble juste que la conclusion de l'idée que contient une apparition par After Forever grunter Gommans Sander. Le cercle est fermé, le voyage continue ...

He began his musical education at the local Academy of Music at the age of 7 years and graduated in 1999 as a winner for classical guitar and music theory. Meanwhile, 16 years old, he started playing electric guitar and he soon discovered the magic and freedom that you can create with this instrument. In this spirit, he continued his studies at the School of Music in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It was the perfect place to develop skills and meet people with similar interests.

Il joue de la guitare basse depuis 1996, du piano depuis 1989 et de la guitare depuis 1995. En 1997, il a rejoint Axamenta ( Fantasy Metal belge), dans laquelle il a été actif en tant que guitariste et clavier. Il a également joué aux claviers dans Gurthang (Black Metal) pour un certain temps. De temps en temps il compose des chansons clavier BO-like. En mai 2002 il est devenu le bassiste d' Epica.

Bien que EPICA a été en tournée à travers le monde pendant des mois, Mark a trouvé le temps de mettre un autre groupe sur pied, ce qu'il prend très au sérieux. Mark fondée mayan avec Jack Driessen (ex After Forever) et Frank Schiphorst, le groupe est nommé d'après la riche culture maya . ( qui a parement passione Mark , rappelez vous de Consign to Oblivion l'album d'EPICA basée sur le peuple maya )

Tournée européenne 2010 - Groupes de premières parties révélés !
C'est avec un grand plaisir que je vous annonce que les groupes de premières parties pour la tournée européenne d'Epica sont Revamp et Kells ! Cette tournée sera donc l'occasion pour Floor Jansen (ReVamp) de faire découvrir son nouveau groupe à l'Europe, et à Kells de continuer à se faire connaître et en dehors de la France également.

Epica revient avec une 2éme tournée Européenne " Design Your Universe" après Septembre 2010
